Most communications resources were not built for grassroots organizations. They assume all organizations have a dedicated comms team. Stable funding. The luxury of being primarily focused on visibility. They assume safety is a given, not a variable. The COMPA Workbook starts from a completely different place.
The COMPA Workbook, "Communications Infrastructure for Meaning, Power, and Alternatives Making", is a free, comprehensive communications strategy workbook built specifically for grassroots, feminist, human rights, and justice-led organisations — organisations working under resource constraints, in repressive contexts, and on issues that dominant systems work hard to suppress.
It takes inspiration from the work of JASS (Just Associates), the Center for Story-based Strategy, the Association for Progressive Communications, the World March of Women, and the The Commons Social Change Library, among others. We are grateful for the decades of thinking they have put into the world.
The COMPA Workbook is available now here for printing!
We will also be opening workshops on the COMPA Framework for organisations who want to work through it with support, building communications strategy that is grounded in power analysis, specific to your context, realistic about your resources, and built to last.
📌 A few things we need help with:
🌱 If you would like to translate the workbook into another language and have the skills and resources to do that, please reach out. You will be fully credited in the translated version.
🌱 If you would like to support C4AC so we can keep creating free, open-source resources like this, please consider donating. Reach out to us to find out how.
This exists because of the organisations and movements we have had the privilege of walking alongside. It is for them, and for everyone like them.
