The Problem
Philanthropic institutions, especially those funding feminist, trans, and queer movements, often build accountability systems around assumptions of stability, infrastructure, and access that do not reflect the lived realities of many of their grantees. Requirements like receipt-based reimbursements, quarterly financial audits, and formalised reporting structures presume not only familiarity with bureaucratic norms, but also access to financial systems that do not exist in many marginalised communities.
